EVERS, Josephine Praither

Source: Great Bend, Kansas Tribune Tuesday 30 March 1915 p 1

It is seldom given one so sad a task as that of today in writing the obituary of Mrs. Boyd Evers, whose death occurred so suddenly last night at the home just west of this city. She was a woman of home qualities whose interest was in the home and her children and who lived to serve those she loved.  Death was sudden and unexpected and so much a shock that her family and friends can hardly realize the affliction that has so suddenly befallen them. Yesterday in her usual good health and today gone to another land. She had performed her usual household duties and upon retiring last night seemed to be in as good health as ever.  About 10 o’clock Mr. Evers was awakened by her labored breathing and the difficulty she was having in getting her breath. He helped her to a chair and in a few minutes, before aid summoned could reach the home she passed away. Josephine Praiter was born August 31, 1853 in Fountain County, Indiana where she grew to womanhood. When 22 years of age she was united in marriage to Boyd Evers and to them five children were born, four of whom with the husband survive. The children are Otis, Kirby, Will all living near the home place and Mrs. Mabel Geisick of Otis, Kansas. The death of a daughter, Mrs. Frank Woestman occurred just a short time ago. The family moved to Barton County in 1888 and for 31 years have live don the farm where death occurred. She was a model housekeeper, a kindly and thoughtful neighbor and the Evers home has often been the scene of neighborhood gatherings, both Mr. and Mrs. Evers being most popular with their neighbors. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. Westwood. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow.  - kbz
